The Mississippi Department of Education has made many changes in curriculum and the Statewide Accountability Rating System with the goal to have Mississippi's students scoring at the national average on the National Assessment of Educational Progress Exam (NAEP) by 2013. No Child Left Behind was established by the United States Congress to provide increased school accountability and additional resources for failing schools. The four pillars of NCLB are to provide stronger accountability for results, more freedom for states and communities, proven education methods, and more choices for parents.
