Laurel High School 10th grader Raekwon Pettis received an invitation to participate in the All-State Junior Nationals Basketball Competition this summer in Ohio. According to his invitation letter, Pettis received the invitation due to his “outstanding performance at the Mississippi state competition.” Through the USA Junior Nationals program, Pettis will participate in the International Sports Festival at the USA Sports Academy in Columbus, Ohio along side high school athletes from across the United States and Canada. Pettis, an Honor Roll student, has been playing basketball since he was eight years old, and currently serves as a shooting guard for the Laurel Golden Tornadoes Basketball Team, and plays wide receiver for the football team. He is the son of Randal Pettis. Raekwon is currently raising funds for his trip, so interested donors may contact Laurel High School at 601-649-4145.
