Maddox Elementary was awarded a Project Fit America grant funded through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi. This grant provides indoor and outdoor fitness equipment for the school, a fitness curriculum, and training for our physical education teacher, Ms. Melissa Johnson. Maddox held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, October 5th, to thank Project Fit and Blue Cross/Blue Shield for this wonderful addition to our school. Included in the celebration were guest speakers, Dr. Mark Horne of Jefferson Medical Associates, Senator Chris McDaniel, Dr. Chuck Benigno, and Sheila Grogan of Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Students and teachers participated in a hula-hoop competition, and students demonstrated the outdoor fitness equipment with the help of JCJC's bobcat mascot. Maddox coordinated this celebration with our annual one-mile "Walk at School" day. We would like to thank Ms. Johnson for writing this grant, Project Fit America for choosing Maddox, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield for funding our grant. LET'S GET FIT, MADDOX! |
