Laurel Tornadoes,
The first word that comes to mind when trying to describe the successes of last year for the Laurel Tornadoes is.... WOW! Nothing else comes close. Our kids 'brought it' on the fields, on the courts, and in the classrooms. Not only did we make more than one trip to Jackson to show we are one of the top schools in the state athletically, we sent completed state tests that came back with scores showing that our students are closing the achievement gap. Our students are not just meeting expectations, they are exceeding them. They are and can compete with any group of students anywhere. Even though scores are still embargoed, know that we are climbing higher and higher and won't stop until we hit the highest rating a school can obtain.
This year, look for the same tenacity on the fields and courts, while we WILL continue to move forward with even better test scores. Last year may have been "The year of the Tornado", but this year will be the year of the entire Tornado Nation! Last year, we had people all over waving signs that said, "I AM a Tornado!" Whether you are enjoying our nationally renowned Gospel Choir, tasting the cooking of our State Champion Culinary Arts team of chefs' from our Career and Technical School, watching our boys hold up the Little Brown Jug again, being totally impressed by the new ROTC cadets marching in cadence, or just touring the new 9th grade campus at the restored Stewart M. Jones Building, I know you will leave feeling the excitement of greatness in motion.

We ARE Laurel!
