Thirteen Laurel Middle School seventh graders qualified for Duke University’s Talent Identification Program. These students were eligible to take the ACT, college placement test, along side 11th and 12th graders.

Laurel Middle School’s TIP qualifiers tested in the top 95 percent on standardized school tests, usually the MCT2, based on a national ranking. This gave the students a chance to sharpen their skills as they sharpened their pencils alongside students four to five years older than them.

When the test results come in, the middle school students can qualify for summer gifted and talented programs at over 400 universities. Outstanding students will receive recognition from the governor’s office.
