" How does it make you feel when you see pictures of the children in Haiti?" This was the question posed by Executive Chairperson, Niyoka Brock when meeting with the Laurel Middle School Chapter of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Laurel Middle School's chapter of SADD is in its inagural year. The members chose the Haiti project as its first service project. Students used red buckets and collected money from their classmates during the first week of February. When the money was counted, they had raised $325 to be donated to Haiti through the Red Cross. They invited Peggy Owens-Mansfield, executive director of the Pinebelt Chapter of the Red Cross, to the school to receive a check for the donation. SADD has an executive board as follows: Essence Collier, Victor Harris, Kale McCann, Ja Keiko McCray, Jordan Ward, Mary Haiiles, Jaelyn Taylor, Antwanika McGruder, and Niyoko Brock as chairman. Club Sponsors are school counselors Sandi Creel and Brittany Ellis

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s), The safety of our students continues to be of utmost importance to Laurel Middle School. As principal, my focus is "smart, safe schools" . Schools that are smart and safe open doors for all students by building a foundation of high expectations, rigorous content, and persistent support. We employ a variety of security measures in our daily efforts to provide safe and secure learning environments. These measures reflect our community's high expectations for school safety. That is why we are asking motorists to please use caution when traveling near schools. School and community officials have implemented some safety measures that are designed to help protect students. These measures include: · No left turns into the school drop-off/pick up area from Grandview Drive. · No students should be dropped off in the street. · All students should be dropped off or picked up in the designated area. · Parents and guardians who are dropping off or picking up students at LMS should not enter Grandview Drive at 16th Avenue. · Those who will be bringing their children to and from school should turn on Ferrill Street, then take a right on South 19th Avenue at the stop sign in front of Stainton Elementary, then follow 19th Avenue to the stop sign at Grandview and take a right on Grandview Drive. · Adhere to the speed limit in school zones and be aware of bus stops. Law enforcement will be observing the traffic on Grandview and individuals caught violating the "no left turn" sign will be ticketed. If you have questions or concerns about school safety, please contact the school. Thank you for your understanding and assistance. Sincerely,
Jeannine Agee Principal |
