Laurel High announces top senior ACT score
Due to his outstanding academic performance, Laurel High School senior Jaylen Cross has the top ACT score of the class of 2017 with a 27 on the college entrance exam. Throughout his senior year, Cross was recognized for his outstanding educational achievements and his dedication to school and community.
While at Laurel High School he served as an active member of Interact, a community service organization. He assisted with numerous projects including serving meals at the annual Thanksgiving senior citizens luncheon and he assisted with serving breakfast at the school’s annual Veterans Day breakfast.
Due to his high academic standards, Cross is a Superintendent’s List Scholar, Principal’s List Scholar and is graduating in the top 25 with honors. He received numerous scholarship offers including an ACT scholarship and academic scholarship to Mississippi State University.
Cross plans to attend Mississippi State University where he will major in computer science with dreams of becoming a software developer.
“My ultimate goal is to be successful and have a job that I’m happy with and do well with,” Cross said.
While at Laurel High School, Cross said there have been numerous teachers who impacted his life including history teacher Audrey Mayatte, algebra teacher Joshua Walters and English teacher LaShunda Price.
“There are quite a few teachers who have been influential in my life,” Cross said. “Ms. Mayatte, Mr. Walters and Ms. Price have helped me think about what I should do as a person and have pushed me in the right direction.”
