LHS Homecoming parade & festivities planned

Laurel High School will kick off the 2017 homecoming festivities with a week of special events. The theme for Spirit Week is “Laizzez Les Bon Temps Sur La Tornado” or “Let the Good Times Roll on Tornado Street,” inspired by the Disney movie Princess and the Frog that takes a princess on an adventure through the streets of New Orleans. The excitement will begin Tuesday, October 3 with the Laurel School District Homecoming Parade.

The parade will begin at 6 p.m. There will be a new route for the parade this year.

The parade, made up of floats from the high school, middle school and elementary schools, will begin at the Sawmill Square Mall on Mason Street beside McDonalds. The route will turn left onto Leontyne Price Blvd. (formerly Beacon Street) and travel to the red light at Today’s Furniture where the route will turn left onto Carroll Gartin Blvd. The route will continue until the next red light near Hatfield’s Beauty School where it will turn left onto Sawmill Road. The route will continue along Sawmill and end at the old Gibson’s Building.

The parade will feature both the middle school and high school homecoming courts and football sweethearts.

All week long there will be student events promoting school spirit including dress-up days, and competitions.

Friday, October 6 in the school’s auditorium beginning at 9 a.m. will be the coronation and naming of Mr. Homecoming and Mr. and Mrs. LHS. The crowning of the queen and presentation of the court will be held during halftime of the Laurel vs. Wingfield game with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.

Thursday, October 12 will be Laurel Middle School’s Homecoming game between the bricks beginning at 5 p.m.
