EXCEPTIONAL EDUCATION

The Laurel School District Office of Exceptional Education Services (EES) will systematically design and implement effective and inclusive instructional practices to produce meaningful educational outcomes for students. The Laurel School District EES will work to individualize each student's educational program to best meet their needs, and collaborate with parents, general education teachers, and support staff to develop appropriate programs that promote student success.

IDEA–The Mississippi Educational Scholarship was enacted in 2015 and provides an opportunity for parents of children with disabilities to receive money to help defray the cost of private school tuition or other specific allowable expenses to educate their child. The ESA program was created by the Equal Opportunity for Students with Special Needs Miss. Code Ann. §§ 37-181-1 et. seq. The program is being administered by the Mississippi Department of Education, Office of Special Education. For more information on the ESA program, please visit MDE at https://www.mdek12.org/OSE/ESA. Self-Contained Class Prom– The Exceptional Education Transition Team held a prom for the Laurel Middle School and Laurel High School self-contained students. Laurel High School Student Council members volunteered to help with the event that was held in their gym. The ARC of the Pinebelt Region donated funds to assist in purchasing decorations and refreshments. Big Time Limos provided limo rides for students and adults who attended the prom, and Wharf Media donated photography services. The first annual prom was a huge success, and will definitely become a tradition for our students.
