Laurel School District Pre-K (4K) Program Frequently Asked Questions

How old does my child have to be for Pre-K for the 2024-2025 school year?
A child must be four years old by September 1, 2024.

Does my child need to be potty trained?
Yes. Your child must be potty trained prior to starting pre-k.

How many students are accepted into the Pre-K program?
The Laurel School District’s Pre-K program is limited to serving 80 students in the 2024-2025 school year.

Is my child guaranteed placement in the Pre-K program for the 2024-2025 school year?
Application does not guarantee acceptance. 

How are students selected for Pre-K Program?
The first 80 students who qualify will be accepted.

When will I find out if my child has been accepted into the Pre-K program for the 2024-2025 school year?
Parents will be notified via email of acceptance details during the summer months.

My child was not accepted and was placed on the waiting list. Is it possible that he/she might still get in?
Yes. The Laurel School District Pre-K program maintains a waiting list throughout the school year and fills slots as they become available.

Is there a cost to attend Pre-K in the Laurel School District?
No. The Laurel School District does not offer tuition-based Pre-K.

I currently live outside of the Laurel School District. Can I still sign my child up for Pre-K?
No. You must live within the Laurel School District at the time of requesting enrollment in the Pre-K Program to qualify.

My child does not turn four until after September 1, 2024. Can my child still attend?
No. In order to be eligible for our Pre-K Program, students must be four-years-old by September 1, 2024.

Is there a specific curriculum used in Pre-K?
Our Pre-K program follows the Mississippi Early Learning Guidelines for Four-Year-Olds.

What are the hours of the Pre-K program?
Our Pre-K program is a full-school-day program. Each school sets their arrival and dismissal times.

Is bus transportation provided?
No, bus transportation is not provided. It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to transport their child to/from school daily.
