Laurel Magnet School of the Arts Principal

Dr. Heather Jones will join the Laurel Magnet School of the Arts Family as the Head Principal. Jones has 22 years of experience in education, having served as a teacher, assistant principal, interventionist, instructional specialist, and family and parent engagement coordinator.

Dr. Jones received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Southern Mississippi, a master’s degree in elementary education, specialist’s degree in instructional leadership and a doctorate degree in educational leadership from William Carey University.

Dr. Jeanifer Pearson, is currently serving as the Lead Teacher at LMSA. However, her journey in education began as a Biological Sciences Teacher at St. Martin High School in Ocean Springs, MS. With a total of 22 years of experience in education, She has had a diverse range of roles before landing her current position. She spent 7 years as a Biological Sciences Teacher and another 7 years as an elementary gifted teacher at Oak Park Elementary in Laurel. Additionally, she has 9 years of administrative experience under her belt.

Jeanifer returned to Laurel for the second time in July 2023. Her educational journey includes several notable degrees. She earned an A.A. from JCJC, a Bachelor's degree in Microbiology with a Minor in Chemistry from Mississippi State, a Master's degree in secondary education from William Carey, and both an Ed.S. and Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern Mississippi.
